SHIPS AHOY
Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be Jack Sparrow? Well grab your pirate sword, don your feathered hat, and get ready to sail away! Provided with minimal supplies, teams are challenged to design and build a free-floating raft, which they’ll then race against their competitors. With flags flying high, and uproarious cheering from their mates, it’s Ships Ahoy as racers paddle with all their might, veering from port to starboard, hoping their crafts are seaworthy. There’ll be no need to swab the deck, as your raft likely won’t have much of one. In addition, every band of pirates has its own, unique shanty, and your team will write and perform its own. Will your vessel withstand the chop of the waves, or will you be seeing visions of Titanic?
The Experience At A Glance
After the formation of crews, whether pre-determined or randomly formed by our professional facilitator, and some spirited challenges to get the competitive energy flowing, buccaneers will be dueling for supplies to make their most seaworthy vessel.
During the construction phase, these bands of seafarers are forbidden from entering the water. With only five minutes to “test” their dinghy’s seaworthiness, at a specific time, announced by your facilitator, collaboration and ingenuity from all is needed, right from the get-go.
When the “time’s up” whistle blows, it’s all hands on deck, as each crew will transport its vessel to the water’s edge, and prepare for the races.
With a number of tasks to be completed, it’s not just the paddlers who will be involved. As with the design and construction, it takes a TEAM to win the race. As the whistle sounds, it’s Ships Ahoy and away we go!
Following the races, each brigand must decide who’s side he or she is really on, as rafts are dismantled in a race against the clock. Additionally, crews perform their Pirate Shanties for the ultimate judge . . . Blackbeard, himself!
Each and every team has the opportunity to take home the bounty of gold. Does yours have what it takes? Yo ho, yo ho, the pirate’s life for me!
"We had an outstanding time! The smiles on all the faces in our pictures speak volumes. People were initially resenting that we had a scheduled event... they were likely dreading something they thought would be awful and it turned out to be the thing they talked about most. Thank you for helping us make this a memorable trip that has been ranked as a favorite among many of our attendees!"
